zelpultide alfa

Zelpultide alfa is a recombinant human surfactant protein D (rhSP-D) developed as a protein replacement therapy for respiratory diseases. It is designed to replace the endogenous SP-D, which plays a critical role in lung immune defense by reducing inflammation and infection while modulating immune responses. Zelpultide alfa is administered intratracheally, particularly in very preterm infants at risk for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a serious lung condition often resulting from mechanical ventilation and oxygen support. The drug has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-infective properties, with potential applications in other respiratory diseases such as COVID-19, community-acquired pneumonia, influenza virus infections, and respiratory syncytial virus infections.
