Overview

Zembrin is a **patented, standardized extract of the plant Sceletium tortuosum**, developed over more than a decade by scientists and physicians. It is a **botanical supplement**, not a pharmaceutical, and is specifically standardized to a proprietary chemotype of Sceletium, using a dry aqueous-ethanolic extract of the aerial parts at a 2:1 ratio. Zembrin's primary mechanism of action is **dual inhibition of phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) and serotonin (5-HT) reuptake**, mainly through its alkaloids mesembrine and mesembrenone. It has undergone preclinical and clinical trials showing **mood enhancement, anxiety reduction, and cognitive function improvement** in healthy adults. The product is thoroughly studied for safety and efficacy and is approved in Canada for supporting cognitive function. Zembrin is experiential, with most users observing effects within one to two days. Peer-reviewed research demonstrates **safety** over 3 months at varying doses[3][7], with a rapid onset of action and good tolerability. Clinical studies with healthy adults show anxiolytic effects (including fMRI studies showing dampening of threat response in the amygdala)[4], cognitive improvement and mood enhancement[7]. All current research and efficacy claims apply only to this proprietary standardized extract, not to other generic Sceletium extracts.
