Overview

Zempia (E-101 Solution) is a first-in-class, topical biological antimicrobial developed by Exoxemis. It utilizes a porcine myeloperoxidase (pMPO) enzyme system to generate highly reactive singlet oxygen and hypochlorous acid. This enzymatic process mimics the natural immune response of neutrophils to kill a broad spectrum of pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores. The formulation consists of pMPO, glucose oxidase (GO), glucose, and sodium chloride in an aqueous solution. It has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the prevention of surgical site infections and has shown potential in treating urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and biodefense applications such as anthrax. The drug is designed for topical application to open wounds and has demonstrated safety without interfering with normal wound healing.
