Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zengwei Xiao Chengqi Tang (增味小承气汤) is a modified traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula based on Xiao Chengqi Tang (Minor Rhubarb Decoction). The term "Zengwei" indicates the addition of extra herbs or modifications to the original formula. While the classic Xiao Chengqi Tang contains rhubarb (Da Huang), magnolia bark (Hou Po), and immature bitter orange (Zhi Shi), Zengwei Xiao Chengqi Tang typically includes additional ingredients to enhance its effects, such as improving digestion, promoting bowel movements, and addressing more complex patterns of heat accumulation and food stagnation in the intestines. The mechanism of action is primarily purgative—clearing internal heat, resolving food stagnation, moving Qi, and unblocking the bowels. It is used for conditions like constipation with abdominal fullness due to mild Yangming Fu syndrome or intestinal dry heat. The specific added herbs in "Zengwei" versions may vary by manufacturer but often include agents that further support digestion or tonify Qi.
