Zepuning is a recombinant human thrombin developed by Zelgen Biopharmaceuticals for the management of surgical bleeding. As a highly specific serine protease, it mimics the action of endogenous thrombin in the final stage of the coagulation cascade, directly converting fibrinogen into fibrin to promote blood clot formation and achieve hemostasis. It is the first recombinant human thrombin commercialized in China and is indicated for topical use to control capillary and venule bleeding during surgery, particularly when conventional methods like suturing or cautery are insufficient. Clinical data, including Phase 3 trials in liver resection, support its efficacy and safety profile without significant immunogenicity concerns.
