Overview
Zerobase is a paraffin-based emollient cream indicated for the symptomatic treatment of red, inflamed, damaged, or dry skin associated with conditions such as atopic eczema and dermatitis. The formulation contains liquid paraffin (11% w/w) and white soft paraffin (10% w/w), which function as occlusive agents to provide a protective barrier on the skin surface, thereby reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and promoting hydration of the stratum corneum. Originally part of the Cambridge Laboratories portfolio, the brand was acquired by Alliance Pharma in 2010 and is currently manufactured by Thornton & Ross. It is widely used in the UK as a standard-of-care emollient, often serving as a reference control in clinical trials evaluating newer humectant- or ceramide-based topical therapies.
