Overview

Zervimesine is an investigational oral, once-daily small molecule drug being developed for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. It is also under investigation for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), particularly geographic atrophy. Zervimesine acts as a neuroprotective agent by preventing the binding of toxic oligomers—such as amyloid beta (Aβ) and alpha-synuclein—to neurons and synapses, thereby shielding them from damage. Its mechanism involves interaction with the sigma-2 receptor, which regulates pathways impaired in neurodegenerative diseases. The drug is being developed by Cognition Therapeutics[1][5][6][7].
