Zetafenac

Zetafenac is an ophthalmic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) suspension containing 0.1% w/v nepafenac, developed and marketed by Bioquest Pharmaceuticals. As a prodrug, nepafenac penetrates the cornea and is converted by ocular tissue hydrolases into amfenac, a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes. By blocking these enzymes, the drug inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of pain and inflammation in the eye. Zetafenac is indicated for the prevention and treatment of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery. Additionally, it is used to reduce the risk of postoperative macular edema in diabetic patients following cataract surgery.
