Zetamox

Zetamox is an ophthalmic antibiotic solution containing moxifloxacin, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone small molecule. Developed and marketed by Bioquest Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment of bacterial ocular infections, including bacterial conjunctivitis. Moxifloxacin works by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes: DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are critical for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination; their inhibition leads to bacterial cell death. Zetamox is administered topically and is characterized by high ocular tissue penetration, particularly into the aqueous humor, making it effective for both surface infections and prophylaxis prior to ocular surgeries like cataract removal.
