Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zetamox-L is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing moxifloxacin (0.5% w/v) and loteprednol etabonate (0.5% w/v). Developed and marketed by Bioquest Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment of bacterial eye infections associated with ocular inflammation. Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and transcription. Loteprednol etabonate is a corticosteroid that exerts anti-inflammatory effects by activating glucocorticoid receptors, leading to the inhibition of inflammatory mediator release. The formulation is designed for topical ophthalmic administration and is noted for its safety profile, particularly in patients sensitive to steroids (steroid responders) and those with glaucoma, due to the site-specific metabolic inactivation of loteprednol.
