Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zeulide Depot (leuprolide acetate for depot suspension) is a Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LHRH) analog developed by GP Pharm and marketed by Verity Pharmaceuticals in Canada. The drug utilizes a patented microsphere controlled-release technology to deliver leuprolide acetate, a synthetic nonapeptide agonist of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor (GnRHR). Upon administration, it causes an initial surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), followed by down-regulation and desensitization of the GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. This results in the suppression of testicular testosterone production to castrate levels, which helps slow or stop the progression of hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. Zeulide Depot is indicated for the palliative treatment of advanced and/or metastatic prostate cancer and is available in 1-month (3.75 mg) and 3-month (22.5 mg) intramuscular injection formulations.
