Overview
ZEUSIT is a branded generic formulation of sitagliptin, an oral antihyperglycemic agent developed and marketed by the Indian pharmaceutical company Opsiscare Lifesciences. It belongs to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class of drugs, which are indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The mechanism of action involves the competitive inhibition of the DPP-4 enzyme, which normally degrades incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preventing their degradation, ZEUSIT increases the circulating levels of active incretins, thereby stimulating insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. This leads to improved glycemic control with a low risk of hypoglycemia.
