Overview
Zhangpi Ointment (also known as Zigui Zhangpi Ointment) is a topical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound developed by the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. It is formulated as an ointment comprising six botanical drugs (including *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* Fisch, *Angelica sinensis* (Oliv.) Diels, *Arnebia euchroma* (Royle) Johnst., *Rheum officinale* Baill, *Rehmannia glutinosa* Libosch, and *Cortex Lycii*) and two minerals (rubber powder and calomel). Zhangpi Ointment is primarily developed for the treatment of refractory wounds and skin ulcers, specifically hydroxyurea-induced leg ulcers in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms. It promotes wound healing and re-epithelialization, potentially by modulating inflammatory mediators and upregulating vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in wound tissues.
