Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhanrong capsule is an orally administered, non-systemic, intragastric volume-occupying agent developed for the treatment of overweight and obesity. The capsule contains a superabsorbent hydrogel that expands significantly upon contact with water in the stomach, physically occupying space to induce a sense of satiety and reduce food consumption. This mechanical mechanism of action is similar to other hydrogel-based weight loss aids like Plenity. It is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical evaluation in China, with studies led by Peking University First Hospital to assess its efficacy and safety in weight reduction when combined with lifestyle interventions.
