Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhaqu cordyceps liquid is an oral liquid preparation made from fermented Cordyceps, a fungus used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is being developed by the School of Medical Information Engineering at Chengdu University of TCM for the treatment of insomnia. [7] A clinical trial (ChiCTR2100051187) has studied its effects on primary insomnia, showing that the fermented Cordyceps sinensis broth significantly improved sleep outcomes compared to a placebo. [3, 5] The active components in Cordyceps, such as cordycepin (an adenosine analogue) and adenosine itself, are believed to contribute to its therapeutic effects on sleep. [3, 4] Animal studies suggest that cordycepin may increase non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep by acting on adenosine receptors (A1, A2A, and A2B), particularly in the hypothalamus. [3, 9]
