Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhengqing Fentongning Sustained-Release Tablets (also known as Zhengqing Fengtongning Sustained-Release Tablets) is an approved oral traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Hunan Zhengqing Pharmaceutical. The active ingredient is sinomenine hydrochloride, a morphinan alkaloid purified from the climbing plant *Sinomenium acutum*. Sinomenine hydrochloride acts as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and immunomodulatory agent. It exerts its therapeutic effects primarily by activating the neuronal acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha-7 (CHRNA7), the mu-type opioid receptor (OPRM1), and the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), as well as by antagonizing guanylate-binding protein 5 (GBP5). Zhengqing Fentongning Sustained-Release Tablets are approved in China for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and are also being investigated for other inflammatory and neuropathic conditions, including gout, postherpetic neuralgia, diabetic kidney disease, and IgA nephropathy.
