Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhengqing Fentongning Tablets (also known as Zhengqing Fengtongning Tablets) is an approved traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Hunan Zhengqing Pharmaceutical Group. The active pharmaceutical ingredient is sinomenine hydrochloride, a pure alkaloid extracted from the medicinal plant *Sinomenium acutum* (Qing Feng Teng). It is widely used in China for the treatment of rheumatic diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. Sinomenine hydrochloride exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and immunomodulatory mechanisms, which include acting as an agonist of the alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (CHRNA7) and the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), activating the mu-type opioid receptor (OPRM1), and directly binding to and inhibiting guanylate-binding protein 5 (GBP5) to suppress the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway.
