Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhenyuan Huanwu Granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound granule, modified from the Aikeqing formula. It is composed of water extracts from six traditional Chinese herbs: Epimedium, Panax ginseng, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Poria cocos, Zingiberis rhizoma, and Salvia miltiorrhiza. This multi-ingredient preparation is designed to tonify the kidney and spleen and promote blood circulation, aligning with TCM principles. Preclinical studies, particularly in orchiectomized rats, have investigated its potential to improve erectile dysfunction (ED) and fatigue. Its proposed mechanism of action involves activating the nitric oxide synthase (NOS)-nitric oxide (NO)-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling pathway and elevating testosterone levels. The original Aikeqing formula was developed to enhance immune function, improve quality of life, and alleviate side effects of anti-AIDS medications in HIV/AIDS patients. The ingredients are considered dual-purpose substances, functioning as both food and medicine or health supplements, suggesting its potential development as a functional food.
