Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhibai dihuang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, most commonly administered as a pill (Zhibai Dihuang Wan) or decoction. It is a modification of the classic Liuwei Dihuang formula, with the addition of *Anemarrhena asphodeloides* (Zhimu) and *Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai). In TCM theory, it is primarily used to nourish Yin and lower "fire," making it a standard treatment for Yin deficiency with vigorous internal heat. Clinical research, including trials conducted by Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, has investigated its efficacy in treating "Shanghuo" (internal heat) manifestations such as dental ulcers, gingivitis, dry eye syndrome, and oral herpes simplex. The formula's therapeutic effects are attributed to its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant properties, which help regulate the immune response and restore physiological balance.
