Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhikang Capsule (ZKC) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation composed of 14 herbal ingredients, including Rhubarb, Coptis chinensis, pseudo-ginseng, and radix among others[4]. It is modified from classic TCM formulas Qi-Li-San and Fu-Jin-Sheng-Ji-San. ZKC has been widely used in China for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), traumatic bleeding, uterine bleeding, hematemesis, hematochezia, posttraumatic swelling and pain[1][2]. Mechanistically, ZKC exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6; suppressing COX-2 and iNOS expression; reducing oxidative stress; promoting M2 macrophage polarization; inhibiting apoptosis via downregulation of caspase-3; modulating the MyD88-dependent TLR4 signaling pathway; and weakening NF-κB signaling[1][3][4]. It also demonstrates potential anti-tumor activity by inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis in breast cancer cells[4], as well as improving hemorheology indices to prevent thrombus formation in trauma patients[5].
