Overview
Zhikebao Pian (止咳宝片) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and chemical hybrid formulation developed and marketed by Teyi Pharmaceutical Group. It is a national exclusive product in China with a history of over a hundred years, and its secret recipe was included in the first batch of the Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Cultural Heritage Protection List in 2009. The formulation is a combination of traditional Chinese herbs (including Aster tataricus, Exocarpium Citri Rubrum, Platycodon grandiflorum, Fructus Aurantii, Stemona sessilifolia, Fructus Schisandrae, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Poppy capsule extract, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Peucedani Radix, and Peppermint oil) and the western chemical expectorant ammonium chloride. It is approved in China as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine for the treatment of cough, phlegm, and asthma caused by wind-cold exopathogen, as well as chronic bronchitis and upper respiratory tract infections.
