Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhilong Huoxue Tongyu is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed and used primarily at the Affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Southwest Medical University in Luzhou, China. It is a patented formula (Patent No. 200810147774.1) designed by Professor Sijin Yang based on the Buyang Huanwu decoction method and Xuan Fu theory[2][4][6]. The capsule contains five main herbal ingredients: - Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi) - Pheretima aspergillum (Dilong) - Hirudo nipponica (Shuizhi) - Sargentodoxa cuneata (Daxueteng) - Cinnamomum cassia (Guizhi)[2][4][5] The formulation is used for the treatment of cardio-cerebral diseases such as ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and atherosclerosis[3][4][7]. Its mechanism involves anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant activity, promotion of blood circulation, reduction of blood stasis and phlegm according to TCM theory[2]. Modern pharmacological studies suggest it acts through multiple pathways including modulation of oxidative stress responses (e.g., Nrf2/HO-1 pathway), inhibition of ferroptosis in brain injury models after hemorrhagic stroke[5], suppression of endothelial-mesenchymal transition via Hippo/YAP signaling in atherosclerosis models[7], and regulation of gut microbiota composition in ischemic stroke models[3].
