Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhimuduo Phenol Capsules is a botanical drug candidate derived from the rhizome of *Anemarrhena asphodeloides* (Zhimu), developed by Suzhou Siyuan Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus. The product consists of a purified polyphenolic fraction of the herb. In clinical trials, it is targeted at patients with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome of "yin deficiency and internal heat." A Phase 2 trial (CTR20130224) in China compared the efficacy and safety of Zhimuduo Phenol Capsules to acarbose in treatment-naive diabetic patients. The drug is intended to regulate blood glucose levels through the biological activity of its constituent polyphenols, such as mangiferin.
