zhinao capsule

Zhinao capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related cognitive and sleep disorders. It is a multi-component preparation composed of eight herbal and animal-derived ingredients: Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus, Polygonatum sibiricum, Cistanche deserticola, Curcuma wenyujin, Acorus tatarinowii, Ligusticum chuanxiong, and Pheretima aspergillum. The capsule exerts neuroprotective effects through multiple pathways, including the modulation of the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway, inhibition of neuroinflammation (by reducing levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β), and reduction of amyloid-beta (Aβ) deposition. Additionally, it has been shown to promote neurogenesis and enhance synaptic plasticity by upregulating brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and synaptic proteins such as synaptophysin and PSD-95. Zhinao capsule is approved as a hospital preparation in Anhui Province and has undergone clinical evaluation for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.
