Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhishe Tongluo Capsules (蛭蛇通络胶囊) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of TCM for the treatment of ischemic stroke, specifically small artery occlusive stroke. The formulation is indicated for patients with Qi deficiency and Blood stasis syndrome. It contains animal-derived ingredients such as Shuizhi (Leech) and Wushaoshe (Black-tail snake), which are traditionally used to promote blood circulation and unblock collaterals. The therapeutic mechanism is primarily linked to the inhibition of thrombin and platelet aggregation, thereby improving cerebral microcirculation. The drug is currently being studied in Phase 4 clinical trials in China as an adjunctive therapy to standard Western medical care to improve neurological function and reduce vascular events.
