Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhishi Tongjiang Granule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed by The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the promotion of gastrointestinal function recovery following abdominal surgery, particularly in patients with colorectal cancer, and for the treatment of postoperative ileus (POI). The formula is composed of several herbal ingredients, with *Fructus Aurantii Immaturus* (Zhishi) serving as a key component known for its prokinetic properties. Mechanistically, the granule is thought to enhance gastrointestinal motility by modulating the secretion of gut hormones such as motilin and gastrin, while simultaneously exerting anti-inflammatory effects by reducing levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). It is typically administered orally as a granule formulation during the postoperative recovery period.
