Zhishi Xiaopi Wan

Zhishi Xiaopi Wan (枳实消痞丸) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originating from the 'Lan Shi Mi Zang' (《兰室秘藏》) by Li Gao. Its primary functions are to eliminate epigastric fullness and stagnation (消痞除满) and to strengthen the spleen and harmonize the stomach (健脾和胃). The formula is composed of multiple herbs, including Zhishi, Houpo, Huanglian, Banxia, Ganjiang, Renshen, Baizhu, Fuling, Maiya, and Gancao. It is traditionally used to treat conditions characterized by spleen deficiency, qi stagnation, and a combination of cold and heat in the middle burner, leading to symptoms such as epigastric fullness, poor appetite, fatigue, and irregular bowel movements. Modern clinical applications include chronic gastritis, chronic bronchitis, gastrointestinal neurosis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, cholecystitis, liver cirrhosis, and indigestion. The formula works by regulating qi, promoting digestion, resolving dampness and phlegm, and balancing the body's internal cold and heat.
