The formula is designed to address the TCM pathological state of "Qi deficiency and blood stasis," which is commonly associated with chronic microvascular complications in diabetes. It typically comprises botanical and animal-derived ingredients, including *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang), and *Hirudo* (Shuizhi). Research indicates that Zhixiao Sanjie Fang may exert therapeutic effects by reducing urinary albumin excretion, improving renal function, and inhibiting renal fibrosis. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway, the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and the protection of podocytes from oxidative stress and apoptosis.
