Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhixiao Tang (ZXT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound prescription developed by Professor Lie Wang at the Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine. It has been utilized clinically since the 1970s for the management of pneumonia. The formulation is an oral decoction composed of nine herbal ingredients: *Pheretima aspergillum*, *Ligusticum chuanxiong*, *Perilla frutescens*, *Belamcanda chinensis*, *Peucedanum praeruptorum*, *Prunus armeniaca*, *Scutellaria baicalensis*, *Chelidonium majus*, and *Dictamnus dasycarpus*. ZXT exerts its therapeutic effects primarily through anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic mechanisms. Research indicates that it suppresses the Dectin-1/SYK/NF-κB signaling pathway, down-regulates the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine genes, and inhibits apoptosis in lung tissues, thereby alleviating the symptoms and pathology associated with pneumonia.
