Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhizhu formula (枳术方) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) prescription primarily composed of *Fructus Aurantii Immaturus* (Zhishi) and *Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae* (Baizhu). It is traditionally used to treat gastrointestinal disorders characterized by spleen deficiency and qi stagnation, such as abdominal distension and constipation. In modern clinical research, it is being evaluated for its efficacy in treating slow transit constipation (STC) by promoting gastrointestinal motility. The formula is thought to work by regulating gastrointestinal hormones, including motilin and gastrin, and potentially modulating the enteric nervous system and 5-HT4 receptors to enhance colonic transit.
