Overview
Zhizhu Kuanzhong is a standardized traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula, primarily used for the treatment of functional dyspepsia and related gastrointestinal disorders. The formulation is derived from classical TCM prescriptions—Zhizhu decoction and Zhizhu pill—and contains four botanical ingredients: Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Atractylodes macrocephala), Fructus Aurantii Immaturus (Citrus × aurantium L.), Radix Bupleuri Chinensis (Bupleurum chinense), and Fructus Crataegi Pinnatifidae (Crataegus pinnatifida). The product is manufactured as concentrated granules packed into capsules. Mechanistically, it acts on multiple targets associated with gastrointestinal motility and sensation, including modulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) pathways and greater splanchnic afferent activity. Clinical studies have shown efficacy in alleviating symptoms of functional dyspepsia, especially postprandial distress syndrome subtype, improving gastric hypersensitivity and motor dysfunction[1][2][6].
