Overview
Zhizhu Pill is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula primarily composed of *Fructus Aurantii Immaturus* (Zhishi) and *Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae* (Baizhu), typically in a 1:2 ratio. It is widely utilized in China for the treatment of functional dyspepsia and other gastrointestinal disorders characterized by spleen deficiency and qi stagnation. The pharmacological mechanism of Zhizhu Pill involves the promotion of gastrointestinal motility and the acceleration of gastric emptying. Research conducted by the Institute of Basic Research In Clinical Medicine at the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences has focused on validating its clinical efficacy, demonstrating that the formula regulates the secretion of gastrointestinal hormones such as motilin, gastrin, and ghrelin while inhibiting somatostatin. It is considered a safe and effective prokinetic agent for managing chronic digestive symptoms.
