Zhongfeng Xingnao granule

Zhongfeng Xingnao granule (also known as FYTF-919 or Zhongfeng Xingnao oral liquid) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation originally developed in the late 1980s by Chen Shaohong at the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Sichuan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine). It is composed of four main herbal ingredients: red ginseng (*Panax ginseng*), *Panax notoginseng*, *Ligusticum chuanxiong*, and rhubarb (*Rheum officinale*). The formulation is primarily used in China for the treatment of acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and acute ischemic stroke, where it is believed to promote hematoma absorption, reduce neuroinflammation, and provide neuroprotective effects. However, a large-scale, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 clinical trial (the CHAIN trial) published in *The Lancet* in 2024 demonstrated that the formulation did not significantly improve functional recovery, survival, or health-related quality of life in patients with moderate-to-severe acute intracerebral hemorrhage.
