Overview
Zhongfeng Xingnaoyie decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation developed by the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction. The formula is designed to "activate blood, resolve stasis, and open the orifices," which corresponds to improving cerebral microcirculation and providing neuroprotection. Its primary herbal components typically include *Rheum palmatum*, *Panax notoginseng*, *Hirudo*, and *Acorus tatarinowii*. Pharmacological studies indicate that the decoction exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-1beta, reducing neuronal apoptosis through the modulation of Caspase-3, and protecting the integrity of the blood-brain barrier. It is primarily used in the acute and recovery phases of ischemic stroke to improve neurological function and clinical outcomes.
