Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhongtongning Babu plaster is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) topical formulation developed as a hospital preparation by the Shaanxi Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis, as well as other musculoskeletal conditions involving pain and inflammation. The plaster is formulated as a hydrogel-based cataplasm (Babu plaster), which provides superior skin permeability, moisture retention, and reduced irritation compared to traditional rubber-based plasters. Its therapeutic efficacy is derived from a complex mixture of herbal extracts that possess analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and blood-circulation-promoting properties. The formulation typically acts by inhibiting inflammatory mediators and relieving localized pain at the site of application.
