Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhu-Bai formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) polyherbal formulation specifically developed for the treatment of **Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN)** and **IgA nephropathy**, particularly targeting the **Wet-Heat (Shi-Re)** syndrome. The formula is composed of ten primary herbal ingredients: *Smilax glabra* (Glabrous Greenbrier Rhizome), *Atractylodes chinensis* (Chinese Atractylodes Rhizome), *Phellodendron amurense* (Amur Corktree Bark), *Leontopodium leontopodioides* (Common Edelweiss herb), *Cirsium setosum* (Field Thistle), *Imperata cylindrica* (Lalang Grass Rhizome), *Sanguisorba officinalis* (Garden Burnet Root), *Typha angustifolia* (Cattail Pollen), *Rehmannia glutinosa* (Rehmannia Root), and *Angelica sinensis* (Chinese Angelica Root). Its pharmacological profile is characterized by anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, and immunomodulatory activities. It aims to clear heat, resolve dampness, and cool the blood to prevent vascular leakage and hematuria. Clinically, it has been evaluated in large-scale multicenter trials to assess its efficacy in reducing proteinuria and urinary erythrocytes in pediatric patients, often as an adjunct to conventional ACE inhibitors or corticosteroid therapy.
