Overview
Zhuanggu Guanjie Capsule (ZGC) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by China Resources Sanjiu Medical & Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. for the treatment of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. It has been used in China for nearly 30 years and is documented in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2020). The formulation consists of 12 herbal ingredients, including Rehmanniae Radix, Psoraleae Fructus, and Cibotium barometz. ZGC exerts its therapeutic effects primarily by modulating the NF-κB signaling pathway, which leads to a reduction in the production of inflammatory cytokines and proteins associated with joint degradation. Key bioactive constituents identified in the formula include psoralen, isopsoralen, and aspersaponin VI.
