Zhubech is a liposomal nanoparticle formulation of 1,3-bistertrahydrofuran-2yl-5FU (MFU), a derivative of the antimetabolite 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Developed to address the high toxicity and resistance associated with conventional 5-FU therapy, Zhubech utilizes a nanocarrier system to improve drug stability, release kinetics, and biodistribution. In preclinical studies, Zhubech demonstrated significantly enhanced anticancer activity compared to standard 5-FU and the free MFU analog in pancreatic cancer models, including 3D spheroids, organoids, and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse models. The formulation aims to provide a more effective and less toxic delivery mechanism for treating pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
