Overview

Zhuochuming (QL1207) is a biosimilar of **aflibercept**, a recombinant fusion protein that acts as a potent vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor. Developed by **Qilu Pharmaceutical**, it is designed to treat various retinal diseases characterized by pathological angiogenesis and vascular leakage, including neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO). The molecule consists of the extracellular domains of human VEGF receptors 1 and 2 fused to the Fc portion of human IgG1. It functions as a "VEGF trap" by binding to VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF) with high affinity, thereby preventing these ligands from interacting with their native receptors and inhibiting the downstream signaling pathways that drive abnormal blood vessel growth and edema in the retina.
