Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zicam ChewCaps (also marketed as Zicam Cold Remedy Soft Chews) is a homeopathic over-the-counter (OTC) cold remedy formulated as chewable tablets. Developed and manufactured by ZICAM LLC, the product contains a combination of zinc-based active ingredients, specifically zincum aceticum and zincum gluconicum, along with caffeinum. It is indicated to shorten the duration of the common cold when administered at the first sign of symptoms. The therapeutic mechanism is attributed to zinc ions, which are believed to interfere with the replication of the common cold virus (rhinovirus) within the upper respiratory tract. Notably, the ChewCaps formulation was not associated with the 2009 FDA safety warning regarding anosmia that affected Zicam's intranasal gel and swab products.
