Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zicam Cold Remedy RapidMelts is a homeopathic over-the-counter (OTC) product manufactured by Church & Dwight Co., Inc. It is designed to reduce the duration of the common cold and provide relief from nasal congestion when taken at the first sign of symptoms. The formulation consists of quick-dissolve tablets containing two active zinc-based ingredients: zinc acetate (Zincum Aceticum 2x) and zinc gluconate (Zincum Gluconicum 1x). The therapeutic rationale is based on the ability of zinc ions to potentially inhibit rhinovirus replication and interfere with the binding of the virus to intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) receptors in the nasal epithelium. As a homeopathic remedy, it is marketed as a 'cold shortening' medicine and has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or efficacy.
