Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RapidMelts Cherry (Zicam Cold Remedy RapidMelts Cherry) is an over-the-counter (OTC) homeopathic cold-shortening remedy developed by Matrixx Initiatives (a subsidiary of Church & Dwight). Formulated as a quick-dissolve oral tablet with a cherry flavor, its active ingredients are Zincum aceticum (zinc acetate) 2x and Zincum gluconicum (zinc gluconate) 1x. The therapeutic mechanism of action relies on the release of ionic zinc (Zn2+) in the oral and pharyngeal cavity. These zinc ions are hypothesized to bind to intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) receptors on the nasal and oral epithelium, competitively inhibiting rhinovirus binding and entry, thereby reducing the duration and severity of common cold symptoms when administered at the first sign of illness.
