Overview

Zicam Multi-Symptom refers to a line of over-the-counter (OTC) conventional pharmaceutical products developed by Matrixx Initiatives (now owned by Church & Dwight) for the relief of common cold and influenza symptoms. Unlike the brand's flagship homeopathic zinc-based remedies, the Multi-Symptom formulations utilize standard small molecule active ingredients. The nighttime liquid formulation typically contains acetaminophen (an analgesic and antipyretic), dextromethorphan hydrobromide (an antitussive), and doxylamine succinate (a sedating antihistamine). These components work synergistically to reduce fever, alleviate minor aches and pains, suppress cough, and relieve symptoms like runny nose and sneezing. Daytime versions generally omit the sedating antihistamine to prevent drowsiness.
