Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zicam Ultra RapidMelts is an over-the-counter homeopathic cold remedy developed by Matrixx Initiatives (acquired by Church & Dwight in 2020). Formulated as sugar-free, dye-free quick-dissolve oral tablets, the product contains two active zinc salts: zinc acetate (Zincum aceticum) and zinc gluconate (Zincum gluconicum). It is indicated to shorten the duration of the common cold and help relieve nasal congestion when taken at the first sign of symptoms. The therapeutic effect is mediated by free ionic zinc (Zn2+) released in the oral-pharyngeal cavity, which binds to intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) on epithelial cells, thereby competitively blocking rhinovirus attachment and entry, while also suppressing local inflammation.
