Zicla M

Zicla M is a fixed-dose combination antidiabetic medication developed and marketed by Sinsan Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: gliclazide (80 mg) and metformin (500 mg). Gliclazide is a second-generation sulfonylurea that acts as an insulin secretagogue by binding to ATP-sensitive potassium channels on pancreatic beta cells, leading to insulin release. Metformin is a biguanide that primarily works by activating AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which results in decreased hepatic glucose production, reduced intestinal absorption of glucose, and improved insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. This combination is used to improve glycemic control in adults when diet, exercise, and single-agent therapies are insufficient.
