Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZIMED PF is a preservative-free ophthalmic solution of bimatoprost (0.03%) developed by Aequus Pharmaceuticals for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. As a prostaglandin analog (specifically a prostamide), it acts as an agonist at the prostaglandin F (FP) and prostamide receptors, increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through both the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathways. It is notable for being the first multi-dose preservative-free bimatoprost product available in Canada, utilizing a specialized bottle with a unidirectional valve and air filter technology to maintain sterility without the use of benzalkonium chloride (BAK) or other preservatives. Health Canada granted market authorization in December 2022, and the product was launched in 2023. In May 2025, Aequus Pharmaceuticals announced the sale of ZIMED PF to Luvo Medical Technologies.
