Zimeta Oral

Zimeta Oral is an oral formulation of dipyrone (metamizole) developed by Kindred Biosciences (now part of Elanco) for the control of pyrexia (fever) in horses. As a pyrazolone-class non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), dipyrone exerts its effects through a centrally acting mechanism on the hypothalamus, the region of the brain responsible for temperature regulation. In a pivotal multicenter study, Zimeta Oral showed a 78% success rate in reducing fever within six hours, significantly outperforming the placebo group. While the intravenous formulation, Zimeta IV, received FDA approval in 2019, the oral version was developed to offer a convenient alternative for equine fever management.
