Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Zinc ascorbate** is a zinc(II)-ascorbate coordination compound, also described as zinc-chelated vitamin C. It has been investigated as an oral nutritional antioxidant and as a topical antimicrobial/antioxidant ingredient. Preclinical studies report free-radical-scavenging and superoxide-dismutase-like activity, plus in-vitro antibacterial activity against *Cutibacterium acnes*, *Staphylococcus aureus*, and *Escherichia coli*. Research has explored its potential use in acne vulgaris, oral hygiene, veterinary periodontal care, and mitigation of oxidative stress in heat-stressed poultry. Zinc ascorbate has also been used as a chemical precursor/linker in zinc-ascorbate metal-organic frameworks, which are distinct materials rather than synonyms for zinc ascorbate itself.
