Overview

Zinc diethyldithiocarbamate is a dithiocarbamate salt that is the zinc salt of diethyldithiocarbamic acid. It functions as a chelator for copper and zinc ions. The compound has multiple applications and biological activities: - **Industrial uses**: Serves as an accelerator and activator for natural rubber, styrene-butadiene, nitrile-butadiene, and butyl rubber compounds. - **Medical applications**: Has shown potent anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties. It's approved for use in allergenic epicutaneous patch tests to diagnose allergic contact dermatitis in persons 6 years and older. - **Anti-cancer potential**: Has demonstrated strong anti-cancer activity in vitro. It forms complexes that increase reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, leading to cancer cell death. It also inhibits the NF-kB pathway and has shown ability to suppress cancer invasion and angiogenesis in the presence of zinc and copper ions. - **Catalytic applications**: Can be used as an organocatalyst for the synthesis of high molecular weight polyurethanes from PEG- and PPG-diol macromonomers for biomedical applications. - **Agricultural use**: Functions as an antifungal agrochemical.
