Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zinc gluconate is the zinc salt of gluconic acid, commonly used as a mineral supplement to treat and prevent zinc deficiency. It is an essential trace element that acts as a cofactor for numerous enzymes involved in protein synthesis, immune function, wound healing, and cell division. Zinc plays a critical role in growth and development, especially in children. Zinc gluconate may also be used adjunctively for conditions such as diarrhea and has been studied for its potential to reduce the duration or severity of common cold symptoms by interfering with rhinovirus activity. The compound exhibits additional properties including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, sebum-regulating (for skin health), deodorant (by inhibiting bacterial growth), and wound-healing effects[2][3][6][10].
